Experience :
Mr. Abu Elhassan has over twenty-five years of experience in various fields of geology and in the oil and gas industry of Sudan. He started his career as an Assistant Geologist with the Geological Research Authority of Sudan (GRAS) in 1977. His work with GRAS involved him in various projects across Sudan such as the Mineral Prospect ion Program in Ingessana-Kurmuk area and the Mapping and Mineral Evaluation of Basement Rocks and Overlying Sediments in Western Sudan. Mr. Abu Elhassan developed enough skills to be responsible for the training of over fifteen young geologists during his tenure with GRAS. In 198
5 he moved to work with the Petroleum Administration within GRAS. Mr. Abu Elhassan took part time assignments as Teaching Assistant with the Geology Department of Khartoum University during 1985-1987. In 1986 he participated in a study by Sun Oil Company that conducted geological evaluation and basin analysis over central and central north Sudan. Mr. Abu Elhassan was also involved in the project that investigated the geology and assessed the hydrocarbon potential of the Humar Basin in central north Sudan.
Mr. Abu Elhassan was appointed as the Director of the Petroleum Administration of GRAS where he led many negotiations for concession agreements with foreign oil companies. He then joined the General Petroleum Corporation, which eventually transformed into the Oil Exploration and Production Authority (OEPA). Prior to joining APCO in 2004, Mr. Abu Elhassan was a Senior Geologist with Lundin Sudan Limited.
